My name is Tasheena, or Sheen for short.
I am a Diné asdzáán (Navajo woman) artisan and I am Bit'ahnii, born for Tó'áhani, my maternal grandfathers are Nat'oh Dine'e Táchii'nii, and my paternal grandfathers are 'Áshįįhi. (Shout out to shik'éí)
If quarantine has shown me anything, it is that first, as a people we are strong, and at heart, I am a creator. With daycare and school closures, I had to become a stay-at-home mom again for my five kiddos but in order to remain self-sufficient with major flexibility, my little company was born! And to this day, crafting, painting, making jewelry, or using tools is pure joy for me.
I know you will enjoy the stories told through each beautiful and unique creation that is handcrafted by me.
I am sole creator, business owner, mom, and yes, tired, but
I am enjoying life.
Ahe'hee'!!!!
The Crafty Hogan is a name I produced quite simply because I am an at-home artist. Shima' (my mom) always held space for creativity, and as a crafter herself, her ingenuity has always been a source of imagination. For a good part of my childhood, I lived in a hooghan nimazi (one of the more contemporary Navajo hogans) and I thrived. It was home, just as my mother's womb was home, and I couldn't have chosen a better name that encompasses the inspirations of my art.
